Our Classroom Website

Welcome!

I am so excited to begin this 4th Grade year with each one of my wonderful students! I have a ton of great ideas of how to implement fun into learning new things this year.

COntent!

In 4th grade, the students will get to work in small groups a lot more than they are used to. Although, there are going to be times when they have to put their cover sheet up and work independently. My goal is to get them to enjoy reading books. They are always welcome to check any book out of the library, as long as they are grade-appropriate. The students will also have a set time in the day where I will tell them to pull out their books for about 30-45 minutes and read. Math is going to be a lot trickier. They will be learning how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide larger whole numbers than they have learned in the previous years. History will take a turn from the students learning about the community to learning more about their home state and where they originate from.

Procedures regarding late work, tardiness, extra credit, extra help, and office hours!

Late work will not be tolerated. Each week that an assignment is late, I will take 10 points off of it until it gets to a 50%, then I will no longer be able to take the assignment and the grade becomes a 0%. I understand that certain life events happen that are uncontrollable. In that case, if the students needs an extension for a legitimate reason, then just make sure the parent(s) are in constant communication with me to keep me up to date.

My class will follow the school's rule on tardiness. The morning bell will ring at 8:30 signaling for me to begin the morning teaching. If any student arrives to school at 8:31, they must go to the office and check in before coming into the classroom. They will not be allowed into my classroom without doing so first.

I typically will not give extra credit. The only time that they may have the opportunity for extra credit would be if they are presenting a group assignment or project to the class. I could also hand out worksheet that have some tough problems on it. If they get the answers wrong, it will not count off their grade. If they get any of them right, that will only boost their grade.

I am always available to give any extra help to any one of my students who are struggling. Typically, my school day is from  7:30am-4:00pm. If those hours do not work, I am willing to accomodate. I want all of my students to be able to succeed. I will never deny any child the help they need. I have all of my contact information written in the 'Contact Me' tab on this website. Do not hesitate to use one of those methods. I make it a point to check all communication lines every so often throughout the day.

Rules, Rewards, & Consequences

I will establish 5 rules that will be applied in my classroom, listed below:

Rule #1: I will show respect to others and respect myself.

Rule #2: I will take responsibility for my words and my actions.

Rule #3: I will be a hard worker and show attentiveness.

Rule #4: I will raise my hand and get permission to speak out loud.

Rule #5: I will use polite words only. Absolutely no cursing, teasing, swearing, or profanity will be allowed.

If any student breaks any of these rules, I will implement a green, yellow, and red card consequence to give out. If a student receives a green card for the first offense, they will receive a warning and a conference with the teacher. If they receive a yellow card, they will receive a ticket (1 page of writing sentences) and another conference with the teacher. If they receive a red card, they will receive a ticket (two page paper) to write sentences and have parents sign, they will have a conference with the teacher, and will get a call home to the parents. If the student continues to break the rules, they will be sent straight to the office to write a full page of sentences and will get a call home to the parents to be picked up from school. I will document all of the consequences on my school’s online portal under the discipline tab. The principal and the parent will both be able to see what the student has done and will know the appropriate action to take to correct the behavior.

My reward system consists of having a 'Treasure Box' in my classroom full of toys to pick from. They could also earn extra recess time outside for good behavior and getting assignments done in a timely manner. When the students have had a great day, I will also praise the students for their behavior, and let the parents know how well they are doing in my class before I tell them things the students need to improve on.
